The double CD of Sun Ra 'Live in London 1970' will be in hand very soon for shipping.

'The Earliest Sun Ra' has also gone through even further seemingly endless mastering -- and a few problematic tracks with digital glitches are being replaced with cleaner versions. This has pushed the release and shipment of this double CD (with 28-page booklet) to January 2011.

In addition, please note that while 'The Earliest Sun Ra' concentrates on Mr. Blount / Mr. Ra as sideman and/or arranger, there will be another (as yet untitled) collection of 14 CDs featuring Mr. Mystery as musician/band member/band leader. These mostly unknown recordings will be segued with Sonny in his own words talking about these specific eras within his life and career.

Because of a recent mind-blowing development (relating to the above and otherwise), there will be several unexpected Sun Ra albums and box sets next year.

THE ABSOLUTE ENSEMBLE ON TOUR WITH MIKE KENEALLY AND NAPOLEON MURPHY BROCK?

In a telephone interview with Les Fils de l'Invention, Napoleon Murphy Brock says:

"Des projets ? Les Grande Mothers sont notre groupe principal mais nous avons tous des projets solo. En mars de l'année prochaine, je vais partir en tournée avec l'Absolute Ensemble, un groupe de vingt musiciens qui jouent Zappa dans un style classique. Le leader, Kristjan Järvi, a été le chef d'orchestre du Tonkkünstler Orchestra à Vienne. Je serai au chant et Mike Keneally jouera de la guitare."

and a correction is in place, as I've been notified that these concerts might be happening, but not in March 2011 !!

"Projects? The Grande Mothers are our main group but we all have solo projects as well.
March 2011, I will be touring with The Absolute Ensemble, a 20-piece ensemble that will be playing composition by Frank Zappa in a classical style. Leader Kristjan Järvi has been the chef of the Tonkünstler Orchestra in Vienna. I will be doing the vocals and Mike Keneally will be handling the guitar."

ZAPPAWEEN UPDATE

Fred Hemmer says:

Bogus Pomp is at it Again!

Just back from a successful European tour, Jerry Outlaw once again leads Bogus Pomp in the annual festivity, ZAPPAWEEN. Right here in downtown St.Pete at The State Theatre, Tampa Bay will be treated to the intense, soulful and hilarious musical renderings of BOGUS POMP! This event, held at The State Theatre on Saturday OCTOBER 30th, is heartily anticipated by fans both young and old, human and other, across the galaxy.

Bogus Pomp is an unique band of musicians dedicated to recreating the music of the greatest modern composers in their own rocking style. The band was started by Jerry Outlaw, Rick Olson and Alex Pasut in 1994 and since has enjoyed the honor of having some of the greatest musicians in Florida perform with them. Despite many changes, the band has only continued to grow stronger over the years by keeping their heads on the classics while allowing their fingers to follow the pulse of the popular. Bogus Pomp has always had one singular goal in mind: to keep this music alive while performing with precision, humor and love for those who truly appreciate what they hear.

A brand new Fender electric guitar, donated by Seminole Music, will be awarded to the grand prize winner for the best costume, along with a number of interestingly assorted consolation prizes granted to those who put their hearts into what they wear.
Since this is an all ages show, please feel free to bring the kids, there will be plenty of candy to go around. Seating is limited, so come out early to secure your place.

Tickets are $20 and doors open @ 8pm at The State Theatre - 687 Central Avenue,

DON PRESTON - COLLIDING GALAXYS - THE PRESS RELEASE

2010 10 17 - press release for "Colliding Galaxys"

Keyboard Legend Don Preston Releases New Download Only Album On Norway's Zonic Entertainment10/15/2010 - Norway - Considered the greatest synthesizer practitioner in the world by many, original Mothers of Invention and keyboard music legend Don Preston, has released a modern masterpiece in electronic music. Now available as a download-only album from Norway's Zonic Entertainment, Don Preston's 'Colliding Galaxys' is an epic electronic tone poem, for the most part, created on classic analogue Moog synthesizers. "The new CD is about the time when the Milky Way and the Andromeda galaxies will collide in about 50 million years from now," explains Preston. "It is a suite in 3 parts. The music was done with a Mini Moog Voyager, a Mini Moog Classic, Roland JV 1080, Kaoss Pad, Alesis Air Synth and various samples with a Roland S-770. This music was done in the style of the electronic music of the '70s. Louis and Bebe Baron were personal friends of mine (they did the score for Forbidden Planet) and it was a thrill to see the equipment that they did the score with, remembering that this was long before synthesizers had been invented."

Don Preston was quite possibly the first person to utilize synthesizers in live performance with Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention. Today, four decades after having built 'analog synthesizers' from scratch before most people had heard of such things, Preston is a living legend and a pioneer in music. Preston recorded and toured with Frank Zappa and the Mothers from 1966-1974 and can be heard on such classic albums as 'Absolutely Free', 'We're Only In It For The Money', 'Cruising With Ruben & the Jets', 'Uncle Meat', 'Burnt Weeny Sandwich', 'Weasels Ripped My Flesh', 'Fillmore East - June 1971', 'Just Another Band From LA', 'Waka/Jawaka', 'The Grand Wazoo' and 'Roxy & Elsewhere'. Along with Frank Zappa, Preston has worked with a number of well known music artists such as Carla Bley, The Residents, Flo & Eddie, Elvin Jones, Meredith Monk and Lou Rawls to name a few as well as scoring and recording part of the soundtrack for 'Apocalypse Now'. Preston also records and tours with former Mothers of Invention member Bunk Gardner as the Don & Bunk Show as well as Zappa alumni Napoleon Murphy Brock and Roy Estrada in the Grande Mothers Reinvented. Robert Moog, the father of the Moog synthesizer, was reportedly shocked by some of the sounds Preston was able to produce on the instrument. He even was quoted saying that Preston's solo on Zappa's "Waka/Jawaka" was the "best Moog solo ever recorded".

Now Don Preston is back with an "epic saga, a majestic 2010 space odyssey" with the release of Colliding Galaxys on Norway's Zonic Entertainment, who have also released other Zappa alumni related CDs "Last year I got a call from Jon Larsen (president of Zonic Entertainment) in Norway, who wanted to do an interview with Bunk Gardner and myself," recalls Preston. "So we went to Arthur Barrow's studio in Santa Monica and proceeded to do very long interviews which got very emotional for both Bunk and myself. We were going way back in the past and revealing things about ourselves that we had forgotten about but were triggered by other memories of that time in the Mothers. Jon, who was so kind and understanding, was very happy to have gotten such great moments on tape to take back to his record company and release this on CD also. Arthur had to go through all the recordings and edit out all the garbage. We should be doing a European tour in April 2011 with Jon's help."

Along with the upcoming Spring tour with Bunk Gardner, Don Preston is currently involved in a number of projects. "I just finished doing music for a group of plays by a group called Gunfighter Nation headed up by writer/director John Steppling," says Don. "I performed all the music live. I also just performed at the Los Angeles County Museum with Bobby Bradford and George Herms, the renowned artist. At present I am rehearsing for an upcoming two-week tour." Preston is also featured on the new ANT-BEE CD 'Electronic Church Muzik' slated for release in late 2010.

Don Preston's 'Colliding Galaxys' is available on the Zonic Entertainment label (exclusively dedicated Frank Zappa inspired music) and can be purchased at www.hotclub.musiconline.no/shop/displayAlbum.asp?id=40350&cid=&sid

The album is distributed by Qualiton in the US www.qualiton.com

ZAPPANALE REVISITED - ENSEMBLE AMBROSIUS AT THE MAIN STAGE

I still have this pile of great stuff lying on my desk... All part of the Zappanale Journal.
So next up is the concert that the Ensemble Modern did at Zappanale.
Main Stage, 2010/08/13.

Having seen the ensemble three days before in Hamburg, was an excellent start of the festival.
So when they played again at the main stage at the festival grounds, I knew I had to be there.

Great tunes (a nice and dared mixture of contemporary pieces), great performances (the mix was really good as well), and a bunch of nice people (Luuk and I had a nice chat with them the day before).
It was a blast.

I'm glad that this concert got recorded. It was made available at the festival in a very limited quantity.

ZAPPANALE REVISITED - WHERE THE FUCK WAS NAPOLEON MURPHY BROCK

I think that most of you know that I'm a big Zappanale fan.
It has been two months ago, and I'm still talking about it
:-)

There's one good reason for it: it's the best music festival that I know.
You get a lot of bands, the best audience, different kinds of interestig music, and a healthy dose of Zappa music.

In the same fine tradition, each year, the Arf Society (who organises the Zappanale festival) invites a number of Zappa alumni to Bad Doberan.
This year, we had the pleasure to see and hear Ike Willis, Ray White, Robert Martin, Denny Walley and Napoleon Murphy Brock.
Most of them could be found on stage with various bands during the festival.
LeBocal, The Muffin Man, The Central Scrutinizer Band, Zappatika, Don Condor, ...
One remark, however, has to be made: "Where the fuck was Napoleon?".

I saw Napoleon in Hamburg with the Ensemble Ambrosius, and he appeared again with the same ensemble in Bad Doberan (each time for a couple of tunes), but did anybody see him performing with any of the other bands???

I did see him walking around, posing for pictures, but I would have liked to see him on stage!!

I know that the Arf Society puts a lot of effort in getting these alumni to the festival.
I find it a shame that one of them takes the invitation, but only takes the stage with one band!

Pretty disapointing, mister Brock.

ZAPPANALE REVISITED - PAUL GREEN'S BAND OF MONKEYS

Friday, August 13, 2010.
An afternoon in Bad Doberan, home of the freaks.

Due to the large number of concerts that I wanted to see, I had to skip a few.
Too much is just too much.
I had heard that Paul Green's Band Of Monkeys would perform some sort of best of seventies psychedelica show, so I just thought I'd better skip that.

As the concert was also released on DVDR at the festival, I thought I'd have a look later. At home.

On the DVDR, Paul Green's Band Of Monkeys isn't convincing. It's all a bit sloppy. Paul Green himself guests on guitar, and does a good job, but by himself, he can't lift the overall quality.
A bit disapointing. A pity.

Setlist of this show (and of the 2009 show) were provided by Steffen Schindler. (Thank you !!) They have been added to the United Mutations Archives.

ZAPPANALE REVISITED - SEBKHA-CHOTT

Album number four of the biggest surprise and finest discovery of this year's Zappanale festival: Sebkha-Chott.

The album starts with 48 short spoken word pieces and continues with a remastered, re-arranged version of the band's first album.
Crazy! But in a terrific way.

If my memory serves me right, I talked a bit about Sebkha-Chott's previous albums a couple of months ago. "De La Persistance..." closes this series as it's their fourth and latest album.
All data have been added to the United Mutations Archives.

As usual, a couple of the Zappanale concerts were made available in a very limited quantity: 20 DVDR copies were sold during the festival.

The Sebkha-Chott concert was one of them. Again, a fine recording of an impressive concert.

Here are some snapshots.

RONNIE CUBER HAS A NEW ALBUM OUT

When Zappa did his Chrismas shows in New York City in 1976, Ronnie Cuber was part of the horn section, playing baritone sax and clarinet. Recordings of this concert were used on "Zappa In New York" and on "Lather".

More recently, Ronnie Cuber teamed up with The Beets Brothers to record "Infra-Rae". The album got released on the Maxanter label.

MIKE KENEALLY UPDATE 2010 10 14

from The Keneallist

Leaving for Joe Satriani tour today!
Live MK video chat on October 20!
Evidence of Humanity reviews begin!
Holland piano performances!

Satriani Tour

Hey gang, hey there pals of mine. This afternoon I leave for Europe for six weeks on the first leg of the Joe Satriani tour. I'm very delighted to be touring again and looking forward to seeing bunches of you at the shows. The US legs of the tour are coming up in December and January. I hear rumblings of possible additional touring with Joe next year; we'll let you know when/if anything firms up. Our warm-up show in Napa last week was an insane amount of fun (even the fire alarm going off and the room needing to be evacuated after the sixth song was kind of exciting) and I really enjoy everybody in the band and crew-- I am so looking forward to this. So far the most asked question is am I playing guitar in this band-- nope! I am the keyboardist, bro (and/or sis), and loving it.

Live video chat

One of the things I'll be doing during the next few months of touring is live webcam broadcasts via Ustream, and the first one will be on Wednesday, October 20 at 9 p.m. UK time (10 p.m. Europe time, 4 p.m. Eastern time, 1 p.m. Pacific time). The web address for the Keneally channel is http://www.ustream.tv/channel/mike-keneally.
If you register with Ustream you'll be able to type me questions in real time, and then look at and listen to me as I answer these questions in real time. If you don't register, you can still watch. Please join me for the first installment of something I hope to make a regular (perhaps monthly) event. We'll be back in touch to remind you of the date and time before it happens-- this first webcast will be more geared to European time coordinates-- when I get back to the States, the timing will be more convenient for US viewers.

MK Vai Piano in Holland

As you know, I have to bust off from the Satch tour for the Glasgow and Birmingham shows (Jem Godfrey will be holding down the fort for me while I'm gone) in order to play my Steve Vai piano arrangements at the Groningen Steve Vai Festival-- three tunes from Vai Piano Reductions Vol. 1, and three from the yet-to-be-recorded Vol. 2. I ran all six tunes in a row for the first time yesterday and, thank goodness, I know them all. As I've shared with you in the past, putting together these Vai piano arrangements always end up being the most painfully challenging musical projects I involve myself with, but I've got them down now to the point where I can actually play them and have fun with them. So these gigs are going to be good, I think. I'll also be playing the arrangements on a radio program with Steve recorded before a live audience happening in the Oosterport Small Hall on Saturday, October 23 at 1 p.m., to be broadcast on Radio 6 at 11 p.m. on December 6 and 13, 2010.

Evidence of Humanity shipping now

And you! Have you ordered Evidence of Humanity yet? Come on! You'll love it, trust me! Here's a new review you might like to check out at Slant Magazine-- pretty darn sweet (although I like Vai's composing a lot more than this journalist does, he's clearly got a head on his shoulders).

I need to pack and stuff and things! See you on the road!

Mike

SUN RA AND HIS MYTHIC SCIENCE ARKESTRA - THE PARIS TAPES

The year is 1971 and Sun Ra and his Mythic Science Arkestra perform in Paris.

It's hard to imagine that this took place almost forty years ago. If it would be performed today, it would still have people running away in disbelief.
High energy free jazz gets mixed with african rhythms, mantra vocals and big band horns.

Released by Art Yard (on CD) and by Kindred Sprits (on vinyl), here's another brand-new and excellent Sun Ra release.

Essential !!

SUN RA - THE HELIOCENTRIC WORLDS OF SUN RA

This fine reissue by ESP arrived earlier today. Three historical albums on three CDs, plus some bonus stuff.
What else does one need?

Disc one includes the "Spaceways" documentary as a bonus; disc two has pictures of the original album covers and some more; and disc three includes critical writings as an extra.
Nice.

Great package. Great music.
A must-have.

ZAPPANALE REVISITED - PART 2

Jean-Luc Ponty headlined this years Zappanale festival.
This was top.

For me, the festival had started with the Ensemble Ambrosius' performance in Hamburg. I had also seen a terrific warm-up party with Lilo and with Don Condor, plus some excellent bands at the festival itself: LeBocal, The Central Scrutinizer Band, Caballero Reynaldo, Sebkha-Chott, The Muffin Men, ...
It was Sunday afternoon, and it had been another superb edition.
Did I know that the best had yet to come?

Jean-Luc Ponty had brought a great band and they played a marvelous set.
Violin, piano, bass and drums.
Out of this world.
  • On My Way To Bombay
  • A Journey's End
  • Back In The 60s
  • Without Regrets
  • Celtic Steps
  • Mirage
  • The Struggle Of The Turtle To The Sea
  • Desert Crossing
  • King Kong
  • Twenty Small Cigars
  • After The Storm
  • Open Mind

ZAPPANALE REVISITED

Bongo Fury in concert

Bongo Fury performed the music of Frank Zappa at the Zappanale festival on 2010/08/13. A Saturday afternoon. Guitar player Rikard Sjöblom also performed with his band Beardfish at Zappanale, so it was nice to hear him play some Zappa.

I liked what I heard, but I had witnessed LeBocal on the truckstage earlier on, and I was in attendance of The Central Scrutinizer Band...
Let's just say that it wasn't the easiest one to impress at that moment in time :-)
  • Rikard Sjöblom: Vocals, Guitar
  • Rasmus Diamant: Bass
  • Petter Diamant: Drums

A video recording of the concert was made available in a very limited edition (of 20 copies).
As I said: it was an okay concert for a Saturday afternoon.

  • announcements (jim cohen)
  • heavy duty judy
  • camarillo brillo
  • dirty love
  • oh no
  • son of orange county
  • king kong
  • call any vegetable
  • echidna's arf (of you)
  • don't you ever wash that thing?
  • let's make the water turn black
  • harry, you're a beast
  • the orange county lumber truck

JOSSE DE PAUW / CORRIE VAN BINSBERGEN - OVER DE BERGEN

Last Friday, I went to see the Josse De Pauw / Corrie van Binsbergen collaboration "Over De Bergen" in Brussels.

Driving into Brussels is always a bit of a nightmare: you know where you want to go, but you can't tell when you'll be arriving. Last Friday was no exception. There were traffic jams all over the place. We were happy to arrive 15 minutes in advance. That's not exatly the best preparation for a concert, but hey, we did arrive, and we were on time.

The show took place at the "Theatre National". An excellent choice, as the concert hall has good seats and excellent acoustics.

I had quite high expectations as the line-up included both Josse De Pauw and Corrie van Binsbergen, plus a selection of the finest musicians one can find in Belgium and The Netherlands. Add the impressive soprano Claron McFadden, and you know that it can't go wrong.

Did the show redeem my expectations?
Absolutely. The performance itself was breathtaking.
The musicians were placed in a three-dimensional palisade while performer Josse De Pauw wandered the stage, climbed the wooden structure, and recited his lyrics.
And the music was astonishing. Excellent compositions and superb performances.

Did I like it?
I loved it.
"Over De Bergen" is about having dreams, about desire. It's about the little voice in your head that makes your life more interesting.
Check out http://www.corrievanbinsbergen.com/ for the remaining dates. You don't want to miss this.

The Rotterdam performance got recorded and has been released on Corrie's record label.

Highly recommended!!
Both the show and the album.

YOUNG SURVIVAL COALITION FUNDRAISER

André Cholmondeley's partner, Cheri Jiosne, lost her battle agains cancer on August 25, 2010.

I fondly remember the Akashic Ensemble concert at Zappanale with Don Preston, André and Cheri.

Here's a message from Cheri's sister Candi:

Bike Ride: Saturday, October 16 · 8:30am - 4:30pm
Location: Atlanta , Georgia, USA

"As many of you know I just lost my sister to Breast Cancer on Aug 25. She was extremely passionate about cycling. We rode together many times. I've decided to do my first century ride on Oct 16 in Atlanta in honor of her. It's a fundraiser for the Young Survival Coalition which provides support and educa...tion for young women diagnosed with breast cancer. ALL funds raised go directly to the YSC.

This ride encompasses so many of my passions as well. I too have a deep love for cycling. Just recently I bought a MINI Cooper ~ my newest love. For every $50 donation you get entered into a drawing for a 2010 MINI!!! It would be great for one of my supporters to win the this giveaway and share in that joy with me. But most importantly this ride allows me to honor my sister Cheri and give back to my community at the same time. Cheri helped so many people in her community and in turn had a tremendous amount of suppport throughout her 2 year battle. She would want everyone to have the same. I am hoping the money I raise will go so no young woman goes unsupported in her battle. Because Cheri excelled in everything that she did my goal for this ride is to raise more money than any individual rider.

Please help me with this challenge and help to honor Cheri and all the women facing this horrible disease. General donations are tax deductible. If you choose to donate $50 or more and be entered into the MINI drawing that donation, unfortunately is NOT tax deductible. You do not need to be present to win (see link below). If you cannot donate financially I completely understand that. You can just send me some encouraging words or come out and cheer me on the day of the event. Or think about joining me in the ride! You can ride 20, 50 or 100 miles. There is even an option for walkers! For more info on the ride or to donate click here: http://www.ysctourdepink.org/goto/TeamJiosneYou can also use this link to follow along with my training progress.

For more info on the Young Survival Coalition: http://www.youngsurvival.org/

Please send this on to anyone you know who may be interested in supporting me or joining me. Thanks in advance for your support. I truly appreciate it.

NEW RELEASES

  • jason robinson: the two faces of janus
    (2010, cd, usa, cuneiform)
In Greek mythology, the Two Faces Of Janus has one face looking at the past and the other one looking towards the future.
Applied to Jason Robinson's first solo album, this nice metaphor suggests that the musicians draw from the rich traditions of the past, as well as from modern, contemporary trends.

Jason Robinson's "The Two Faces Of Janus" is an impressive modern jazz album. This is the kind of jazz that I like.

  • the microscopic septet: friday the 13th
    (2010, cd, usa, cuneiform)
New York based The Microscopic Septet has a new album out. On "Friday The 13th", this experimental jazz band takes on the complex works of pianist and composer Thelonius Monk.

Actually, the ensemble got founded in 1980 by Phillip Johnston (who's also the man behind Fast 'N Bulbous - The Captain Beefheart Project), but got disbanded in 1992. It was the rerelease of their earlier albums on Cuneiform that launched a second career.
"Friday The 13th" is a fine album. Excellent arrangements of 12 Thelonious Monk pieces fill this CD.

The Micros Play Monk. And they do a good job.

  • univers zero: hérésie
    (2010, cd, usa, cuneiform)

Originally released in 1979, "Hérésie" was Univers Zero's second album. The dark and instrumental music that one finds on "Hérésie", made Univers Zero to be consicered the founder of the RIO movement.

Cuneiform has re-released a remixed version of "Hérésie", and has added a bonus track in the process. This is a piece of history. youtube cuneiform mandai homepage

  • les yeux de la tête: nerf
    (2010, cd, ??, head records)
If I would have to pick one album out of the batch that I received from Mandai, it would be Les Yeux De La Tête's "Nerf" album. Les Yeux De La Tête is an experimental free-jazz-rock trio that recently released their debut album on Head Records.

The band did previously release a limited-edition CDR, "L'Oeuf du Cyclone" on the Le Petit Label, in 2007, but "Nerf" is to be their first 'real' album.

JEAN-LUC PONTY'S ZAPPANALE CONCERT REVISITED

A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned that Jean-Luc Ponty's fabulous Zappanale concert would be (re-)broadcast on German Rockradio.
Unfortunately, my fellow zappateers failed to record it.
I'm not that good at that sort of thing (recording broadcasts on the PC, that is), so I didn't give it a shot myself.

Did any of you tape this radio broadcast?
If so, please let me know. I'd love to hear this fine concert in soundboard quality (again).

Here's the youtubed Zappa part of this concert:

ZAPPATIKA'S ZAPPANALE CONCERT

Over at www.zappa.hu, an mp3 of the soundboard recording of the Zappatika Zappanale concert (2010/08/14) has been put on-line.
Go to the site; click and listen.
Special guest is Ike Willis.

Zappatika played a rather psychedelic Zappa set. A bit slow at moments as the the pauses between songs tended to be a bit too long.
Give it a listen.

UZ JSME DOMA - CAVES

Už Jsme Doma is a progressive rock band from the Czech Republic.
The band was founded around 1985, but was considered illegel by the communist government, much like The Plastic People Of The Universe.
This ended in 1990 with the velvet revolution. From then on, the band was able to perform and started releasing records.

In 1995, the band backed The Residents for a series of 20 performances of the Freak Show theater piece in Prague.
And now, the Cuneiform record label is releasing Už Jsme Doma's latest album.

"Jeskyne", or "Cages", sounds great. The band succeeds in making a perfect mixture of progressive and experimental rock music.
The lyrics are in the Czech language, but the booklet presents an english translation.
Nice. Very nice.

An exceptional album in a beautiful package !
Recommended listening!

HOWDY MOON - S/T

In 1974, Howdy Moon (Valerie Carter, Richard Hovey & Jon Lind) released their one and only album. Produced by Lowell George, featuring Lowell George, Roy Estrada, Bill Payne, Richie Hayward, Sneaky Pete Kleinow, Van Dyke Parks, Dave Parlato, John Bergamo, Milt Holland and Dennis Budimer.
How's that for some Little Feat / Zappa & Beefheart references...

ABSOLUTELY FREAK OUT (ZAP YOUR MIND)

"Absolutely Freak Out (Zap Your Mind)" is the title of an album by the Acid Mothers Temple.
You may guess where Kawabata Makoto got his inspiration for this title :-)

The album got released in 2001, and will now be rereleased on a the UK Resonant / Static Caravan label.
2CD-set with bonus material.

MARK BEYER

Mark Beyer is one of my favourite graphic artists. I saw his work the for the first time in Art Spiegelman's RAW magazine years and years ago, and I've been a fan ever since.
So imagine my surprise as I noticed that he had done the album cover of the recent Fat Worm Of Error album, "Broods".

Can't say a thing about the music, but the album cover sure looks great.

ZAPPA PLAYS ZAPPA'S APOSTROPHE

Dweezil Zappa and his Zappa Plays Zappa band will be starting their new tour at "The Roundhouse" in London, England. (Dates have been posted last week.)
And it looks like they will be playing the entire Apostrophe album: "We're performing the works in sequence from the classic album Apostrophe (').".

PRINCE IN CONCERT

Prince has announced a couple of new concert dates. One of them is in Antwerp, Belgium, which is really not that far from where I live.
My only problem is that I don't like big crowds too much, and I prefer to see and hear a musician in a smaller venue and not on a big screen that has been put above the stage...
Anyway, I do like the music that he makes. And besides buying the regular albums, I also download a concert from time to time.
Here's a couple of recordings that I enjoyed the last days:

"Le New Morning" is a recording of 2010/07/23 concert in Paris. "The Bird Rehearsal" is what it says and dates from 1983 (!). And the last one, "Days Of Soundboard - Volume Two", presents excellent recordings from 2008 & 2009.
As you can see, these are the latest three releases on the FBG label: 32 up to 34.
Free Boot Generation is a label that offers free, downloadable copies of Prince recordings.
I've added tracklists & pictures to the Prince entry at United Mutations.
For the recordings, you'll have to go to the Forum of the Guitars101 website.
At the Forum, check out the Bootleg section.
Go for the lossless ones.
